Meet Cushman & Wakefield
In 2024, global real estate leader Cushman & Wakefield joined thousands of Australians in the Walk for Autism, walking 7,000 steps a day throughout May.
Anna Town, Head of Business Development Services at Cushman & Wakefield, highlighted that participating in Walk for Autism was a powerful way to support employees, contractors, clients, and families on the autism spectrum. “With 1 in 40 people now estimated to be on the autism spectrum, this highlights how common neurodiversity is and the need for better understanding and support for the 675,000 Australians affected,” said Anna.
The event sparked conversations about neurodiversity within the company, where employees shared personal stories about their experiences with autism, building a stronger, more connected community. Anna emphasized that simply asking an Autistic colleague about their needs is a simple yet effective way to show empathy and support in the workplace.
Cushman & Wakefield’s commitment to inclusivity extends beyond the event, as they work with Aspect’s Autism Friendly Team to improve accessibility in workplaces and public spaces. By fostering inclusive environments, the company is helping create a more welcoming Australia for everyone.
Together, employees at Cushman & Wakefield raised an impressive $22,256 for Walk for Autism - showing that inclusivity and support go beyond the workplace!

Nido Early School Ocean Grove
Belinda Rowland, one of the school educators and Walk for Autism team leader, has participated with her team for the last two years. Her inspiration? Her son, who is Autistic.
“As educators, our service is incredibly inclusive. The children understand that people are different, and that’s okay. As an educational tool, they are very aware of what we’re walking for.
It’s also a great team building activity, and we’ve probably got 95% of our educators participating this year. So, it’s definitely something fun for us to do together.”
The Nido Early School Ocean Grove team raised more than $2,000. Belinda said one of the group’s objectives was to raise awareness of autism within the community.
“It’s amazing the difference between an educator who has some awareness of children’s differences and one who doesn’t. It impacts a child so greatly.
The walk is something we’re all pretty passionate about, and we have educators with family members on the spectrum, as well as some educators who are themselves on the autism spectrum.”
RSM Australia
National Chairman of RSM Australia, Jamie O’Rourke, shares why their business participates in Walks for Autism:
“At RSM Australia, we value the communities in which we live and work, and over recent years, we have focused on our overall social responsibility - how we can give back to the community. Like me, many of our team members share a personal connection to autism. This is not surprising, as we have 1,250 staff and an estimated 1 in 70 Australians are on the autism spectrum. Over the past few years, RSM has been involved in Walk for Autism. I am thrilled to witness the growing enthusiasm of so many to be involved in this very worthy cause. Walk for Autism provides us with a fantastic way to give back to the community in which we work and live. It also has the added benefit of improving our health and physical well-being. Our experience has only been positive, and I would encourage other businesses to be involved in the Walk for Autism Workplace Team Challenge.”
